The State of Health

of

The Residents

‘Marton’

Assalam o Alleyykum!

[Peace be upon You]

Marton! It has been mentioned that stages of life of human being are: birth, childhood, youth, middle age, old age where there is similarity between birth and old age where at both stages of life the child and old age are dependent upon others. However, one can be dependent upon others when he is in his childhood, youth and middle age.

How

?

Marton! At any time one can have accidentor a stroke, or heart attack, serious disease etc. etc. where he has to confined to bed all the time, he cannot sit, change sides, eat, drink, urinate, sit on the commode etc. etc. Here he becomes dependent upon others even if he is young and in middle age. Such patients can be treated in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and otherwise.

Marton! The subject matter is the state of health of the old people who are in the Care Homes to be treated physically and spiritually.

Marton! In purpose built Half Acre Care Home Radcliffe there are 30 rooms and most of the time the rooms are occupied. The rooms are only vacated if the resident has recovered and can live independently or if he departs from the world or for a long period he remains in hospital because of the nature of his disease and is not expected to recover soon. There are and had been cases where the patient has to remain in hospital for number of years.

Marton! By observation and overhearing it has been learned that most of residents are very old and physically weak where they have to be taken care of every moment whether they are in their rooms, in lounge, in bathroom, in wash room, in back garden and otherwise.

Marton! The residents are looked after by the care workers in the following manners:

  • in the morning and at night their pampers are changes or whenever there is a need,

  • escort them to the washroom to get refreshed i.e., urinating, releasing nature, washing face. If they are not
able to cleans their private parts then the care worker cleans while wearing plastic gloves,
  • if they are not able to wash their hands and face then the care worker washes their hands and faces either by the use of water or wipe with warm soaked towel,
  • where there is hospital or GP appointment the resident is accompanied with the care worker in ambulance or taxi. The care worker remains with the resident until he is treated in A&E or admitted in the hospital,
  • where the resident need to go to A&E
at any time of day and night the senior staff has to arrange for the ambulance or taxi to escort him to hospital. The care worker is not under obligation to accompany him,
  • if the resident is not able to drink and feed himself then care worker helps him to eat and drink and also help to take medicine at the due time,
  • resident’s used
clothes are put in the laundry bag in his room or laundry bag near the lift,
  • the laundry services wash and dries the clothes, and iron those and bring back and hang them in the wardrobe,
  • the domestic workers cleans the washroom, empties the bin, mop the floor of washroom and bedroom and tidy up the bedroom,
  • if required by the resident he is provided with room service, e.g. when there is infectious disease like Covit 19,
  • there is a buzzer in the bedroom where the resident can buzz if he is in need of any service,
  • the residents who cannot walk they are provided with the wheelchair,
  • the residents who cannot walk independently on their own feet, they are provided frame to lean on and walk independently,
  • every resident’s birthday is celebrated to treat the resident psychologically,
  • etc. etc.,

CONCLUSION

Marton! In short, every resident appeared to be looked after in, more or less, every respect to facilitate their lives to recover from the old age which is like a disease. It helps their friends and relatives when they visit the resident that he is having a comfortable life.

Wass’a’lam

(May Allah Bless you)
