Daily Routine and Services

‘Marton’

Assalam o Alleyykum!

[Peace be upon You]

Marton! As below is the chronology of my daily Routine

  • The room has attached Wash Room. Bathrooms are on the first and second floor.
  • Following morning I went to take shower on the first floor bathroom. The hot water was not flowing. I came out of the bathroom and there was middle age lady. I told her that hot water is not flowing. She told me there is always some issue with this bathroom, just follow me. She escorted me to the second floor, entered in the bathroom and showed me how turn the tab on. She turned the tab on and hot water was flowing. Then she put a towel under the shower and commented to the effect that: it will save you from falling as the floor can be slippery.
  • When I came back after taking shower I observed that bedding of the bed has been replaced and floor is being mopped room is being tidy up.
  • I had noticed that breakfast, lunch and tea timings are fixed and the residents abide by these timings.
  • When Home Manager No 1 came to handover my upper denture I had a brief meeting with her and briefed her to the effect that as you can observe that I am depressed and weak and therefore unable to abide by the timings and not able to eat in the lounge as it will be embarrassing for me as I eat without the denture.
  • She told me to the effect:
    • you can get up at any time you want to,

    • you can have your breakfast, lunch and tea at any time you want to, subject to letting the chef know about your timings. You will have room service,
    • you can go anytime and anywhere out of the care home, subject to letting the administration know where you are going and about what time you will come back,
    • if you have anything to consult or discuss you can come to my office.
  • At the Temporary Residence there was no Wi Fi. At Half Acre Care Home there is Wi Fi. The Home Manager installed Wi Fi in my Smart phone but the desk top did not accept the Wi Fi. I did not know that the CPU ought to have the cordless device installed in it. Later on I had the cordless device installed and now it accepts the Wi Fi. The Home Manager helped me.

Communication with the Staff

Marton!

  • Initially, I was reserved in communicating with the staff other than two Asian care workers. Mostly the staff consisted of women. Moreover, I was depressed and weak. It was taking me time to recover. It took me two months where my mind could become active and I could start creating data for the mission of my life: to convey Messages to Look for Peace at international level.
  • One of the Domestic Worker was a young girl appeared to look 16 or 17 years old. Although I am 76 year old man and used to look upon her as daughter, I was very careful in communicating with her. Why? According to the unwritten constitution if even one touches a girl or a woman she can go to police and get him charged that she was touched by malicious intent and police will prosecute him.
  • However, gradually we started communicating, In short, I learned that she has finished her school and college and intend to go for graduation in September 2022. As a Principal of project: Call for Peace I gathered that she is intelligent and she can be a good teacher. So I advised her to be a teacher with reasons, and she agreed. Very reluctantly I asked if she has kept her ‘Honour’. She told me: Yes. I was pleased. She told me she does not wear make-up, she does not go to night club, she does not drink, she has sober friends.
  • Once we were communicating and I asked her or she told me that she is 21 years old. I said: you must be joking. You look not more than 17 years old. Anyway, a fact emerged that if one does not drink, does not lose his or her honour, and does not wear make-up he or she would look much younger than his or her actual age. Moreover, they will be intelligent as their mind will not be occupied with what to wear, what colour make up should be worn, when to go to night club, look for a boyfriend etc. etc. This fact I shared with other staff and they all agreed.
  • She is helpful. She helped me in resolving my desk top and smart phone issues.
  • One of the seniors came in my room to deliver medication around 10.00pm. I was lying in the bed. We used to exchange views now and then. As below is the dialogue between two of us: For some reason I said to her to the effect:
    • I am diabetic. But I have sweet tooth.
    • She said: I am also diabetic.
    • I said: you look so young, how you can be diabetic.
    • She said: I am grandmother. I have three daughters. Two of them are married and have children.
    • I said: You must be joking.
    • She said: I am not joking.
    • I said: give me one of your photos and I will have survey
      done:
    • do you think this girl is married? Yes or No.
    • If married does she have children? Yes or No
    • If she has children, have they grown up? Yes or No
    • If the children grown up, are they married? Yes or No.
    • If children are married, do they have children? Yes or No.
    • Assuming she is unmarried, would you like to propose to her? Yes or No.
    • I said: I am sure you will receive some propositions. Then I said to the effect: If we had met where when I was 25 and you were 20, I would have had a good wife and you would have made me good husband.

    • She was amused. It is natural phenomenon that when a woman’s beauty is appreciated it makes her very happy. Now we are like good friends and I look upon her as my younger sister.
  • One of the care workers was told about the dialogue with the above senior that she is Grandmother while she is 42 years old. She said I am also Grandmother. I have two sons, one daughter and 7 grandchildren and I am 48 years old. I named her: Field Marshal, the highest rank in the army and the senior I named Commander in Chief as she has three daughters and three grandchildren.

  • They are amused by the names.

  • As below is dialogue with another senior who is Muslim faith based and from Nigeria. I just made up a false alibi. One day:

    • I said to her that you hit my car. I am going to prosecute you.
    • She said: do not worry I will order a new car for you.
    • Following day I said: they brought the car but I do not like the yellow colour and I have returned the car. I like black or white colour.
    • She said: do not worry. I will ask them to deliver white or black coloured car.
    • Following day I told her: they brought Rolls Royce coloured white. I cannot afford the cost of petrol and insurance.
    • She said: Do not worry. I will pay cost of petrol and insurance for 2 years.
    • I said: I have returned the car.
    • She said: I will ring them to deliver black or white Rolls Royce and ask them that the cost of petrol and insurance is charged to my account for two years.
    • Following day I told her to the effect that they brought white Rolls Royce but it had normal registration number. To my mind it is an abuse of Rolls Royce and Bentley not to have Private Registration number. So I had returned the car.
    • She told me that she had asked to register the car with: NAS 1946. I will speak with them.
    • I said: sister! Let us forget about it. I am happy with my little Citron.
    • She said: OK. As you wish.
    • We are like good friends. I look upon her as my younger sister.

  • Recently one evening I went to ground floor to ask care worker about me Tea. The kitchen door was closed. I went to the office. The care worker and senior were sitting in the office and they had Pizza. They invited me to have some rings. I excused that I do not have any dentures and I cannot chew. However, I put one of the rings in my mouth and tried to chew with my gums.

  • As I was trying to chew the Nigerian senior started to take micky by impersonating me.
  • I said to her to the effect: Just wait until 25 Oct when I will have my dentures and I will bite on your arm and pluck a chunk of meat and you will pay for impersonating me.
  • She was clever and said to the effect: it is hard meat. You will not have chunk of meat but your dentures will come out.
  • We all were amused.

Marton! Exchange of views with the Asian staff more frequently in the Staff room or when they come to my room to render some service for couple of minutes as they do not have enough time. We share jokes with one another.

Marton! It has been observed that the care workers, kitchen staff, domestic workers, laundry woman etc. are on their feet once they enter the Care Home until the time the duty hours end. Staff room is used by the Asian staff for having their lunch or tea or coffee. The management has allowed one hour lunch break. It has been noticed that Asian care workers are having their lunch or tea or coffee the buzzer is not being responded then the Asian workers will leave having their lunch to respond to the buzzer. Same could be the case with other care workers. Incidentally, the duty of the case workers is 12 hours but they are paid for only 11 hours because of the one hour lunch break.

Marton! However, the care workers job is very hard. They are mobile within walls of Half Acre Care Home, continuously, for 12 hours, and therefore if they are engaged in some kind of Sense of humour this will help to relieve from their stress.

Domestic Service

Marton!

  • The responsibility of the domestic workers is that every day, each resident’s room ought to be cleaned and tidy up by the domestic worker for example:

    • wipe the tops and sides of every item in the bedroom and wash room,
    • if items unarranged, arrange them properly,
    • mop the floors of bedroom and wash room,
    • fold towel in the washroom if unfolded,
    • change bedding every week,
    • put detergent in the commode and clean the commode,
    • anything else they can think of

  • The above services are required as most of the residents are unable to perform all are any of the above jobs.

  • Domestic Worker no. 1 and 2 were performing the above service amicably. But recently domestic worker no 2 has been shifted to kitchen to help chef for four days a week from 12.30pm to 5.30pm. For this reason the management have to employ domestic worker no. 3. With due respect to management there are some reservations in respect of domestic worker No. 3 which will highlighted under the heading ‘Shortcomings’.
  • Domestic worker No 1 is middle aged woman. Her services are remarkable. As a mobile Temporary resident I tried to leave the room as tidier as possible so that she does not have to spend more time in cleaning and tidy up the room. But, with her professional hands she arrange the items on the desk and otherwise where those ought to be.
  • One day I came to my room after Friday Prayer and saw a flowerpot with Plastic flowers in it. The following day she told me that she looked at my bedroom window and window was empty and did not look nice. So she brought the flowerpot with flower in side so that the window looks nice.
  • Domestic worker No 1’s services are like a Mother. So I named her: ‘Mum’
  • Domestic Worker No 2 is young girl and was waiting for Sep 2022 to join the college. For some reasons she have not joined the college. She has been shifted to Kitchen as a helper to chef. She helped me a lot in respect of IT. For example: installing Wi Fi, downloading Printer in the desk top, setting up WhatsApp in my desktop and Laptop, resolving issues with my Smart Phone etc. etc.

Laundry Service

Marton!

  • There are bags near the lifts at first and second floor. There must be a bag on the ground floor as well. Residents or the care workers put the used clothes in those bags and laundry woman collects the bag, take to laundry room, wash, dry and iron those and then return to the respective resident’s room. The residents are required to write their room no on each clothe so that the clothe is recognised.

  • I used to put the used cloths in black bag and put beside the lift.
  • Laundry no. 1 woman left.
  • Laundry woman no 2 consulted me that she will put a basket in my wardrobe where I can put the used clothes and she will pick up every Friday morning.
  • On Friday I go to perform Friday Prayer in Bolton. When I come back my clothes are washed, duly ironed and arranged properly. The shirts and trousers on the hangers are hanged in the wardrobe.
  • The Laundry woman No 2 is so active that I names her: ‘Bionic Woman’.

Room Service

Marton!

  • Room service means that if any of the resident requires something or some assistance, he or she would buzz
the buzzer. Care Worker should response as soon as possible i.e. within 5 minutes.

  • Most of the time the Care Worker responds within five minutes but sometimes it may take up to half an hour. This is a shortcoming and shall be dealt with under the heading ‘Shortcomings’. However, the delay could be that the Care workers are busy or shortage of staff.
  • My arrangements with the management are that I shall have my breakfast, lunch and tea in my room at timings set by me. Mostly, every morning I, myself, deliver the menu to the chef. However, sometimes I have to buzz for a Care Worker to collect the menu and deliver that to the chef. Alhamdu’lillah! Most of the time respective food is delivered at the right time. If there is some delay it is because the care workers were serving residents in the lounge.
  • Once or twice I forgot to give or send the menu to the chef. He or she sent one of the care workers to collect the menu.

Medication

Marton!

  • The management has designated responsibility to one of the seniors among the Day Staff and Night Staff to deliver the medication to every resident either in the lounge or in their respective rooms i.e. morning, afternoon, evening, night.

  • The repeat prescription can be ordered by the resident himself or by the senior on resident’s behalf. The prescriptions are delivered to the management by the deliveryman.
  • Alhamdu’lillah! Medication is delivered to the residents at the appropriate times. However, if the resident is not in his room then the medication is not left in his room. Afterwards he has to approach the senior to collect his medication.

Other Medical Assistance

Marton! As, nearly all the residents are in their old age and have number of health issues, they are being looked after, and if need be, call the ambulance and one of the care worker will accompany the residents and will stay with him or her until he is discharged on the same day or admitted in the hospital.

Experiences of Medical Assistance

Martons! As below are the experiences where I have been helped by the Seniors.

No 1

Marton!

  • One evening after about 9.00pm I went to the kitchen on ground floor. The night staff was in the kitchen. I joined them in exchanging views. Then I came out to get the drinking water. Before I approached to the cooler I slipped and fell down on the floor. The staff in the kitchen heard the bang and came out to see what happened and I was lying on the floor. Any way I got up and came to my room.

  • After few minutes the senior came and asked me if I am OK. She said she has telephoned the Paramedics to check if you are OK.
  • I told her that I am OK and nothing to worry about.
  • In short, after some time the senior came again told me the NHS is on the phone and want to know if I need any assistance. Anyway I convinced her that I am OK and no need to be examined.
  • The point is that the staff carefully look after the residents.

No. 2

Marton!

  • In May 2022 I had my teeth extracted of the upper jaw around 12.30pm. The bleeding did not stop
until 6.00pm. I was not advised to swallow the bleeding so I was putting hand towel, handkerchiefs, medium size towel to in the mouth to absorb
    the bleeding.

  • I approached the senior and told her about the bleeding. She rang the ambulance service and they said the waiting time is 3 hours. The ambulance was due to arrive around 1.00am. No arrival. Senior rang again. Advised another 2 hours. No arrival, Rang again. This time they arranged a Taxi to take me toFairfield General Hospital A&E. There I waited for about 4 hours to be seen by a specialist. They packed the gums. Later on I was told that the bleeding did not stop because I had been taking Blood Thinning tablet.

No 3

Marton!

  • On Monday 10 October 2022 I had my lower jaw teeth extracted at Oral Surgery Clinic in Ramsbottom UK around 12.30pm. I did not take the Blood Thinning tablet on Sunday evening, as was advised. The gums were stitched. I was advised that if bleeding does not stop then contact us before 5.30pm or thereafter go to A&E.

  • The bleeding did not stop until 6.00pm. Senior knew about the surgery. She asked me to tell her know if the bleeding get worst. So I told her that it is getting worst and if she can arrange for the ambulance. She rang the. Ambulance Service and was told that here is wait for 8 ½ hours i.e. to expect the ambulance around 2.30 am.
  • However, I kept checking if the bleeding has stopped. Around 12.00am the bleeding stopped. I told the senior to cancel the appointment of the ambulance that she did.
  • On Thursday afternoon I went to see my local Dentist to have the lower denture fitted. He looked at my gums and told me that it is too early to fix the lower denture as there is a swelling and there is infection in your gums. He prescribed me Anti – biotic.
  • I was not taking blood thinning tablet. On Thursday evening 13 Oct 2022 I started taking blood thinning tablet. On Friday morning when I got up the bleeding started again. I immediately rang the oral surgery clinic and told them about bleeding. I was told that the surgeons do not work on Fridays and booked an appointment for me on Monday at 12.00pm.
  • Home manger was overhearing my telephone conversation with the receptionist. When I was going to take shower on the second floor, the Home Manager said to me to the effect that she is going to ring my dentist as the bleeding has occurred twice. I said to her to the effect that please wait until I take the shower and I shall explain you the details. After taking shower I went Home Manager’s office and explained to her everything and said that if the bleeding became worst then I shall go to A&E. She agreed.
  • Around 12.00am the bleeding got worst. I was keep swallowing the blood as it was bleeding heavily. It came to my mind that this could have been due to the blood thinning tablet that I took of Thursday evening.
  • I approached the senior in her office and told her the bleeding is getting worst please arrange of the ambulance to take me to A&E. She started ringing and there were recorded messages one after the other. At last she got through and explained my situation about the bleeding. After agreeing to send the Paramedics with the senior the receptionist spoke with me and asked me few questions that I answered. Then she asked me to put a cotton roll where it is bleeding and bite hard and the paramedics will come to you in couple of hours.
  • The senior gave me couple of cotton rolls and came to my room and put the roll between the gums and bite hard. After about 10 minutes I took the toll out and saw the one side is covered with blood. I put the other side between the gums and started to bite. Again I took the roll out. It was covered with blood.
  • I put the second roll in the mouth. When I took that out after few minutes there was a little blood. I went in the washroom to check if the bleeding stopped. I rinsed the mouth a number of times to see if the bleeding stopped. Alhamdu’lillah! It had stopped. I went to tell the senior that the bleeding has stopped so, please cancel the ambulance appointment.
  • Anyway the paramedics came and the senior brought them in my room where I was half asleep. In short, they had my ECG done where my heart beat was high. They also checked my sugar level and blood pressure which were normal. When they learned that the bleeding has stopped they told me that we take you to A&E for your bleeding they will not do anything as the bleeding has stopped. But our advice is that you go to hospital as you heartbeat is high and it can be dangerous.
  • I told them that I had been on tablets to reduce the heartbeat. But the side effect of the medicine was that the cough emerged and I had to cough continuously. Moreover, there was swelling on my feet. I told them that I had been to see my GP and explained him, everything. I proposed to him that, please leave me alone without medication for, at least, sometime as the side effects of earlier medication were: bloating in the stomach, coughing and swelling feet. He agreed.
  • Today, 18 Oct 2022 I received letter from Consultant Cardiologist dated 13 I

“I would strongly advise trying an alternative heart rate control medication as having a very fast heart
rate for prolonged periods does put a lot of strain on the heart and can lead to problems such as heart failure. I have requested an appointment to see you in my heart rhythm clinic and can talk to you about this in more detail along with considering other potential treatments for your heart rate and rhythm”.

  • Insha’allah! I shall avail the appointment and exchange views with Dr E Johnstone in respect of fast heart rate. I shall add the outcome of the meeting.

Observation

Marton! The Ambulances in the court yard have observed where they came to escort resident along with a care worker to Fairfield General Hospital or otherwise. If the resident is admitted, the care worker will come back, and if treated on the same day he will stay with him.

CARE WORKERS KEEP AN EYE ON THE RESIDENTS

Marton! It has been observed that the day care workers keep an eye on the residents in the lounge if everyone is OK. At night the care workers just open the door slowly and see if the resident is sleeping.

OBSERVATION OF KITCHEN

Marton!

  • Kitchen is observed when go to deliver the menu or collect breakfast. Kitchen is kept nice and clean. When tops are used to cut anything there is some debris left on the tops, those are immediately cleaned.

  • Used cups, plates, cutlery etc. etc. are put in the stainless steel basins, those are washed and thereafter placed in the dishwasher to be cleansed perfectly.
  • Floor is regularly mopped so that it is clean at all times as members of the staff are coming and going in the kitchen.
  • In short, the kitchen is in meticulous state all the time.

SERVICE IN THE LOUNGE

Marton! When I have to go out of the care home or see some personnel, I observe the residents in the lounge who are sitting comfortably, watching TV and being looked after by the care workers.

BEAUTY PARLOUR SERVICE

Marton! Once a week the professionals visit for the resident’s hairdressing, nail cutting ad otherwise. The residents have to pay for the service.

RELAXATION FOR RESIDENTS

Marton! In the back garden there are chairs and tables where the residents can relax in summer. On the background there is music relayed. Moreover, the staff can also relax if they find some time to spare.

MUSIC CONCERTS

Marton! Now and then live music concerts are arranged for the enjoyment of the Residents.

BIRTHDAYS OF THE RESIDENTS

Marton! The Management keep the record of date of birthday of every resident. On the due date every resident’s birthday is celebrated by making special cake and the residents get together and wish the resident: Happy Birthday.

SUPER

Marton! Between 8.30pm and 9.30pm Super is served which consists of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, sandwiches, cakes etc. etc.

EXCLUSIVE SERVICES

Marton! There are some services which are required by the resident to be rendered on his behalf by the members
of the staff. As below are some examples where services were rendered upon my petition by the members of the staff.

Stool to rest Feet

Marton!

  • In an office job the desk has bar in the centre to rest feet. It is natural phenomenon that if the feet are not rested on a bar or stool, the swelling emerges on the feet.

  • I petitioned the Handyman if he has a stool to rest my feet upon. He showed me one. It was too big. After few minutes a lady brought another stool and that was also too big. After about half an hour another lady brought another stool which was the right size.
  • This exposed that the Handyman spread the word around so that my issue is resolved. Please see the picture.

Oil Radiator

Marton!

  • Initially, I was under the impression that heating system is based upon the Gas Central Heating.

  • The heating was on 24 hours a day during winter. This was uncomfortable. I asked one of the Asian care worker if the temperature can be reduced. He said you can switch off the heater. He showed me the power point. At night I switched off the heater.
  • Following morning I switched on the heater. After 2 hours I noticed it was still cold and when I touched the heater that was cold as well. I buzzed for the care worker. I told him that heater is not working. He told me it will take 24 hours. Anyway he went and came back with the Handyman. Handyman told me that there are bricks in it and those will take 24 hours to get hot. Anyway the Handyman came with electric oil radiator.. Please see the photo.

Bedside Table

Marton! There was no bedside table. I mentioned it to the Handyman. He brought me the Bedside table. Please see the photo.

Domestic Service

Marton! I used to get up late in the morning where the cleaner lady had to come back later to clean and tidy up the room. Once I said to her to the effect: “I am sorry I get up late in the morning and you have to wait”. She replied to the effect: my duty hours are until 2.00pm. So I should not worry”. It was nice of her not to let me offended.

Refrigerator

Marton! When Home Manger No 1 came to interview me at Temporary Residence I mentioned to her that I have arranged for Home-made food to be delivered where I shall require a Refrigerator and also to keep items of my personal shopping. When I came in the room the refrigerator was in the room. Please see the Photograph.

Wi – Fi

Marton! Whenever there is an issue with Wi – Fi with my desk top, staff help me to reconnect. Once everything was ok but CPU was not accepting Wi – Fi. When the administrator could not resolve the issue she rang the IT service and explained the issue. She was advised that unplug the cordless Wi – Fi device, switch off the computer, plug the cordless Wi – Fi device and restart the computer. If it will not work then there is some other issue. Alhamdu’lillah! It worked.

What’s Up

Marton! One of the care worker installed what’s up in my desk top and laptop.

SPECIAL EXCLUSIVE SERVICE

Marton! Alhamdu’lillah! I am Muslim faith based and consume Halal Food. At Half Acre Care Home my choice for food was limited. Chefs in the kitchen respected my limitations and they thought of vegetarian dishes. I had registered as Vegetarian other than I could have fish. As below is a list which reveals their concern and resolved the issue of Halal Food.

Halal Food

Marton!

  • One of the senior Nigerian staff, Muslim faith based, presented me with Halal Chicken Sausages and Halal Beef burgers. I did not know that there are Frozen Halal Food. I sent an email, on 11 Sep 2022, to Home Manager No. 2:

    Anna

Learned from Nigerian night staff that Asian shops sell Halal chicken sausages, beef sausages and beef burgers. Is it possible to have on the food buying list? If so please get in touch with staff to find out where are those shops.

  • In short, she consulted with the chefs and asked them to enquire about if they sell any of the Halal meat: chicken, lamb, beef. They were advised that the chicken they already supply is Halal and they also have Halal Beef mince and meet.

  • I petitioned the chef if I can have roasted pieces of chicken. When the dish came there were two leg thighs nicely roasted. In short, they also looked for Halal frozen food and at present there:
    • Halal Beef Burgers,
    • Halal Chicken Sausages,
    • Halal Lamb Sausages.
    • Halal Mince Beef
    • Halal Chicken

CONCLUSION

Marton! The brief outline of daily routine and services of the staff depicts that the residents are looked after, more or less, in every respect to facilitate their lives. However, it is natural phenomenon that there are some ‘Shortcomings’ in every organisation, which can be detected by a third party when examined critically while the administration and management turn a ‘Blind Eye’ to those ‘Shortcomings’ and do not consider worth removing those ‘Shortcomings’.

Marton! Alhamdu’lillah! My life have been devoted to convey Messages to Look for Peace, at international level, that everyone is looking for. Being Principal of Call for Peace it is my Ethical and Moral duty to highlight the ‘Shortcomings’ of the Half Acre Care Home Radcliffe UK so that these are removed, not only in Half Acre Care Home but all the Care Homes of Half Acre along with St Mary’s Care Homes. It has been learned from Home Manager No.2 that St Mary’s Care Homes are also under the administration of the Marton. Moreover, letters shall be posted or emailed to the management of other Care Homes to browse Post: Half Acre Care Home and critically look at their own management and if there is a shortfall, it ought to be made good. The articles have been uploaded on website: www.cfpislam.co.uk.

Marton! However, setting up and managing Care Homes is Good Gesture where old people are looked after where policies are devised to facilitate their lives.

Wass’a’lam
