How The Residents Are

Looked After

‘Marton’

Assalam o Alleyykum!

[Peace be upon You]

Marton! It has been mentioned that every human being has stages of life: birth, childhood, youth, middle age, old age.

Marton! From birth to childhood the child is dependent in every respect upon his mother and father. It is natural phenomenon that when the child enters in old age he becomes like a child and become dependent, more or less in every respect. This is why Allah has revealed in the Qur’an that the offspring ought to look after their parents if they were children:

Translation Surah Bani Isra’iel Ayat no. 23 – 24

بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم

And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that be dutiful to your parents. If one of them or both of them attain old age in your life, say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address in terms of honour.

And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility through mercy, and say: “My Lord! Bestow on them (my parents) Your Mercy as they did bring me up
when I was young
.

Your Lord Knows best what is in your inner – selves. If you are righteous, then verily, He is Ever Most Forgiving to those who turn unto Him again and again in obedience, and in repentance.

Observation: Allah advises to be obedient and respectful to parents and not to shout at them.

Translation Surah Maryam Ayat no 31 to 32

بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم

[Hazrat Essa (Jesus) telling people when He (PBUH) ware newly born:]

And He (Allah) has made me blessed whosoever I be, and has enjoined on me Salat (Prayer), and Zakat, as long as I live.

“And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblessed.

Observation: Hazrat Essa (PBUH) advises to be dutiful to mother.

Marton! Allah has revealed in the Qur’an that one has to honour and be respect to his parents even if they are Non-Muslims:

Translation Surah Luqman Ayat No 13 – 15

بسم اللہ الرحمٰن الرحیم

And (remember) when Luqman said to his son when he was advising him: “O my son! Join not in worship others with Allah. Verily, joining others in worship with Allah is a great Zulm (sing) indeed.

And We have enjoined on man (to be dutiful and good) to his parents. His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship, and his weaning is in two years – give thanks to Me (Allah) and to your parents. Unto Me is the final destination.

But if they (both) strive with you to make you join in worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey them not; but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path of him turns to Me in repentance and obedience. Then to Me will be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do.

Observation: Allah reminds mankind how his mother bore hardship when she was pregnant.

Marton! Let us extract from above Ayats of the Qur’an what is required form the offspring to serve their parents.

  • And that be dutiful to your parents
  • say not to them a word of disrespect, nor shout at them but address in terms of honour.
  • And lower unto them the wing of submission and humility
  • “My Lord! Bestow on them (my parents) Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was young.

  • “And dutiful to my mother, and made me not arrogant, unblessed.
  • His mother bore him in weakness and hardship upon weakness and hardship,
  • but behave with them (Non-Muslim Parents) in the world kindly

Marton! In short, Care workers ought to give due respect to residents what Allah has revealed to their offspring
in Qur’an.

Marton! Let us see how the Half Acre Care Home Radcliffe UK has been looking after the residents.

Services in Care Homes

Marton! The services required in purpose built care homes for residents are in view of the Ayat of the Qur’an in this day of age:

  • electricity
  • gas
  • water
  • hygiene i.e. cross ventilation so that the polluted environments are exhausted from the whole building
  • order medicines on behalf of the residents
  • receive the delivery of the medicine
  • medicine distribution to residents at the appropriate times
  • arrange ambulance service if the resident cannot go to the medical appointment on his own
  • accompanying resident to hospital service or to their GP
  • writing incidents about the residents what happened within the walls of care homes e.g. fell down and how the resident was treated and be reported to the Home Manager even when she is at home at middle of the night
  • any complaint about the resident should be reported to the social worker and GP
  • keep record of the appointments with GP, hospital and otherwise
  • looking after residents 24 hours day and night service
  • give bath or shower to the residents who cannot manage themselves
  • help them to put on their clothes
  • change their bedding every week
  • care workers – day
  • care workers – night
  • domestic workers
  • laundry service
  • ironing service
  • delivery of ironed clothes service
  • garden lawn mowing
  • car park to park cars of the staff and visitors
  • chef
  • helper to the chef
  • pure food
  • healthy drinks
  • towels
  • pampers
  • wheel chairs
  • bathing chairs
  • bins for rubbish
  • bins for pampers
  • bins for Covit 19 clothes
  • bins in the washrooms
  • bins in the bathrooms
  • bins in the kitchen
  • large bins outside the care homes where the bins inside the care home are emptied and to be collected by the council
  • exercise equipment e.g. exercise bike, paddles exercisers etc.,
  • handyman to take care of issues within the care home
  • buzzer service so that resident can be attended as soon as possible in his room
  • the Home Manager ought to be briefed about the overall state of health of the residents by the senior
  • the Home Manager ought to visit every resident, now and then, and encourage him to be independent as much as possible
  • broadband service
  • handover from day to night and night to day, briefing the respective staff if there was anything unusual

Marton! Alhamdu’lillah! More or less all the services are provided and there appears to be no complaints from residents. However, there are some shortcomings which are dealt with under article ‘Shortcomings’. No doubt the administration and management will deal with those.

CONCLUSION

Marton! Old people are assets as they had rendered services after ascertaining ILM (Knowledge), promoted ILM, made discoveries of the universe, innovated technology, etc. etc. So why they ought not to be looked after by their offspring where they have eased the lives of next generation and many other generations to come.

Marton! For some reason or the other, offspring excused themselves to look after their parents. Therefore their duty and responsibility is shifted to the care homes. So the care workers are in the shoes of the offspring. They ought to look after the residents if they are their offspring.

Wass’a’lam
