Brothers and Sisters!     

Assalam o Alleyykum

    [Peace be Upon You]

Brothers and Sisters! Context of Hadith e Qudsi is where Allah told Khatim ul Anbiyya Mohammed Ibne Abdullah (SAW):

I was a hidden Treasure.

I wished to be recognised.

So I created Jinn and Inss.

(Spirits and mankind)

Brothers and Sisters! In short, Jinn’at (Spirits) were created before creation of mankind for submission of Allah. The circumstantial evidence depicts that prior to the creation of Jinn’at Allah had created Angels for His (SWT) worship and they were too submissive.

Brothers and Sisters! Iblees was Chief of Jinn’at. As per narration there was not a small piece of heavens and earth where he did not prostrate to be submissive to Allah.

Brothers and Sisters! Majority of the Jinn’at was mischievous. They were causing unrest by disputing, fighting, killing and otherwise.

Brothers and Sisters! As below is brief perspective in the words of Molana Shabir Ahmad Usmani (RA) as how Iblees who was scholar and great worshipper of Allah turned into Shaitan (Devil):

When Hazrat Adam (PBUH) was recognised as the viceroy the Angels together with them Jinn’at were Commanded by Allah to bow down towards Hazrat Adam (PBUH) and hail Him (PBUH) as a Qiblah for prostration, as the kings first appoint their heir then order the nobles to pay homage to him so that  one dare not  to rebel and oppose.

The Angels bowed down towards Him (PBUH) according to the Command given by Allah, but Iblees did not join them. He originally came out of the Jinn’at and had close intermixation with Angels.

The main cause of his rebellion is as follows:

For several thousands of years the Jinn’at inhabited the earth and they also went to the heavens. With the passage of time Jinn’at became haughty and ferocious. When their disobedience and blood shedding knew no bounds the Angels, by the Command of Allah slew many of them and the rest scattered in the jungles, mountains and islands.

Iblees was a great scholar and priest amongst them. He showed his immunity from the corruption of other Jinn’at.

By the intercession of Angels he was released and he began to live with them.

Now he became greedy for this great designation of Viceroyalty on Earth in place of Jinn’at. He devoted himself to worship with a false idea that he was exclusively entitled to this great rank.

But when the order was pronounced for Hazrat Adam (PBUH) Iblees was disappointed at the loss of his false worship and did what he could do in sheer envy and malevolence against Hazrat Adam (PBUH) and was eventually cursed forever.

Iblees was predestined as an infidel (Kafir) in the knowledge of Allah but his infidelity (Kuffar) was exposed now: or else we can say that now he turned out a rejecter (Kafir), because he denied the Command of Allah out of pride and calculated it as given against wisdom and reality and thought it beneath his self-assumed dignity.

He was not merely cursed for not performing Sajdah (Prostration) towards Hazrat Adam (PBUH), because disobedience is sin but calling Allah’s Command as unwise is a great Kuffar (Infidelity) and quarrelling with Allah with foolish vanity is a tremendous rebellion.

So Iblees was cursed forever or declared as Kafir not because he did not obey the Command to bow down towards Hazrat Adam (PBUH) but because he denied that very command and thought is unreal, unwise and below his self – conceited vanity.

Brothers and Sisters! The context and substance of the above perspective reveals that Shaitan has become enemy of mankind and he has taken respite from Allah that he will try to digress mankind from the Right Path  in every possible way. As below is dialogue between Allah and Iblees which is revealed in the Qur’an:

Surah Al A’raf Ayat no. 11 – 19

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

11. And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of human being); then We told the Angels, “Prostrate yourselves to Adam”, and they prostrated themselves, except Iblees (Satan), he refused to be of those who prostrated themselves.

12. (Allah) said: “what prevented you (O Iblees) that you did not prostrate yourself, when I Commanded you?”

Iblees said: “”I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire, and him You created from clay.”

13. (Allah) said: “(O Iblees) get down from this (Paradise), it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced.”

14. (Iblees) said: “allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).”

15. (Allah) said: “You are of those respited.”

16. (Iblees) said: “Because You have sent me astray, surely, I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on your straight path.

17. “Then I will come to them from front of them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You).”

18. (Allah) said (to Iblees): “Get down from this (Paradise) disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely, I will fill Hell with you all.”

19. “And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimun (unjust and wrongdoers)

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! In the above dialogue the key dialogue is:

“Then I will come to them from front of them and behind them, from their right and from their left, and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (i.e. they will not be dutiful to You).”

Brothers and Sisters! Shaitan has declared that he will attack the Naffas of mankind from right, left and in front and behind. In other words he will try to digress mankind in every aspect of day to day life.

ENMITY OF SHAITAN (Devil)

Brothers and Sisters! Their context and substance of the above Ayats clearly reveal that Shaitan is open enemy of mankind and this fact has been revealed a number of times in the Qur’an:

Surah Al Baqrah Ayat no. 36

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

Then the Shaitan (Satan) made them slip therefrom (the Paradise), and got them from that in which they were.

We (Allah) said: “Get you down, all, with enmity between yourselves.

On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! The perspective of the above Ayat is that Shaitan lured Hazrat Adam (PBUH) and Hazrat Haw’wa (RTU) to eat the fruit  of forbidden tree because of the enmity in his heart for the mankind where they were asked to go on earth as punishment.

Surah Al Baqrah Ayat no. 168

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

O mankind! Eat of that which is Halal (lawful) and good on the earth, and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily, he to you an open enemy.

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! In the above Ayat Allah warns mankind that Shaitan will lure them to eat Haram (disallowed) food as he is open enemy.

Surah Al Baqrah Ayat no. 208

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam (by obeying all the rules and regulations of Islamic way of life) and follow not the footsteps of Shaitan (Satan). Verily he is to you a plain enemy.

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! In this Ayat Allah advises mankind o expend day to day life as per the Guidance of Allah and not self-made theologies which will be made upon the inspiration of Shaitan as he is open enemy.

Surah An Nisa Ayat no.60

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

Have you seen those (hypocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been sent down to you, and that which has sent down before you, and they wish to go for judgment (in their disputes) to the Taghut (false judges) while they have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitan (Satan) wishes to lead them far astray.

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! In this Ayat the mentality of hypocrites is exposed that they would go for judgment to non Muslims rather than Muslims. The perspective of the revelation of the above Ayat is as below in the words of Molana Shabir Ahmad Usmani (RA):

·       Formerly it was stated that the Rulers must be Muslims. In this Ayat it is made clear that the judges also be Muslims. Only the Hypocrites take their cases to the Satans. It means the Muslims should not go to Satans for the settlement of their disputes. It also means that the Muslim states should not go to the Satan or their institutions, or their courts, or their assembly for the settlement of their disputes. In this Ayat a very important event is attended to illustrate the hypocrisy of false Muslims who take their cases to Satans. The allusion runs as follows:

·       Once a dispute arose between a Jew and a hypocrite-Muslim. The Jew was on the Right. He said to the hypocrite: “let us go to the Prophet (SAW) for the settlement for our dispute.”

·       The Jews though denied the Prophet (SAW), yet they knew from their very heart that Mohammed Ibne Abdullah (SAW) was a just man in their age and injustice could not be imagined in His (SAW) court.

·       But the hypocrite declined, though in a superstitious way, because he knew also the same fact.

·       There were some Jew magnates who also settled the disputes in their circle. One of them was Ka’ab bin Ashraf who was a Jew chief and decided the cases of his community.

·       The Hypocrite suggested taking the dispute to Ka’ab bin Ashraf because he thought that Ka’ab bin Ashraf would be pleased to decide in his favour.

·       The hypocrite was not wrong in his estimation as the Jews were accustomed to injustice and bribery

·       But the Jew did not agree and finally both of them came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) who (SAW) decided in the favour of the Jew who was on the right.

·       The Hypocrite coming out said to the Jew: “Let us go to Hazrat Omer (RTU). What he (RTU) decides shall be final and agreeable,”

·       The Jew was at once prepared to go to Hazrat Omer (RTU) who decided cases in Madina by the order of the Prophet (SAW).

·       The Hypocrite would have thought that Omer (RTU) will decide in his favour against the Jew making concession to his Islam.

·       However, Hazrat Omer (RTU) came to know that the Holy Prophet (SAW) had decided the case in favour of the Jew. He (RTU) went into the house, brought a sword and slew the Hypocrite and said: “One who does not acknowledge the decision of the Holy Prophet (SAW), for him my decision is this.”

·       The Hypocrite’s heirs came to the Holy Prophet (SAW) and filed suit against Hazrat Omer (RTU). They swore before the Holy Prophet (SAW) that he had gone to Omer (RTU) for the sake of mutual agreement and conciliation, and he did not mean to deny the judgment of the Prophet (SAW).

·       At this time these Ayats were revealed and the reality was divulged and Hazrat Omer (RTU) was given the title ‘Farooq’ (the great Differentiator between right and wrong)

Brothers and Sisters! It is the work of Shaitan who lured the Hypocrite to deny the decision of Prophet Mohammed  (SAW) as he is open enemy of mankind.

Surah An Nisa Ayat no.118 – 121

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

Allah cursed him (Shaitan) And he (Shaitan) said: “I will take an appointed portion of your slaves.

“Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires; and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I will order them to change the nature created by Allah.”

And whosoever takes Shaitan (Satan) as Wali (protector or helper) instead of Allah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.

He (Shaitan) makes promises to them, and arouses in them false desires; and Shaitan (Satan) promises are nothing but deception.

The dwelling place of such (people) is Hell. And they will find no way to escape from it.

Observation:

Brothers and Sisters! The context and substance of the above Ayat depicts that Shaitan will lure the human mind to change appearances of the body to look beautiful. As below are foot notes which highlight that it is the work of Shaitan who inspires to make changes in the appearance of the body:

Narrated Alqamah: Abdullah (bin Mas’ud) said: “Allah curses those ladies who practice tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those ladies we get their hair removed from their eyebrows and faces except the beard and moustache, and those who make artificial spaces between their teeth in order to look more beautiful whereby they change Allah’s creation.”

His saying reached a lady from Banu Asad, called Umm Ya’qub, who came (to Abdullah) and said: “I have come to know that you have cursed such and such (ladies)?”

He replied: “Why should I not curse these whom Allah’s messenger (SAW) has cursed and who are (cursed) in Allah’s Books!”

Umm Ya’qub said: “I have read the whole Qur’an, but I did not find in it what you say.”

He said: “Verily, if you have read it (I.e. Qur’an) you would have found it. Didn’t you read?

And whatsoever the Messenger (Mohammed (SAW) gives you, take it, and whatsoever he forbids you, abstain (from it)”

She replied: “Yes, I did”.

He said: “Verily, Allah’s messenger (SAW) forbade such things.”

She said: “But I see your wife doing these things.”

He said: “go and watch her.”

She went and watched her but could not see anything to support her statement. On that he said: “If my wife was as you thought, I would not keep her in my company (i.e. I would divorce her. (Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 6 Hadith no. 408)

Narrated Abdullah (bin Mas’ud (RTU)): Allah’s Messenger (SAW) has cursed the lady who used false hair. (Sahih Al-Bukhari Vol. 6 Hadith no. 409)

DISASSOCIATION OF SHAITAN

Brothers and Sisters! Allah is Rehman and Raheem and wants to save mankind from the traps of Shaitan because on the Day of Judgment he will accuse the mankind to go astray and he will proclaim that he had nothing to do with it. Allah being Aleem (Knower of everything) revealed in the Qur’an that how Shaitan will disassociate himself on the Day of Judgment:

Translation Surah Ibrahim Ayat no. 22

بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم

And Shaitan (Satan) will say when the matter has been decided:

 “Verily, Allah promised you a promise of truth.

And I to promised you, but I betrayed you.

I had not authority over you except that I called you, and you responded to me. So I cannot help you, nor can you help me.

I deny your former act in associating me (Satan) as a partner with Allah (by obeying me in the life of the world). Verily, there is a painful torment for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers).”

CONCLUSION

Brothers and Sisters! The conclusion boils down to is that Shaitan is open enemy of mankind, therefore he has to take every precaution not to fall in the trap of Naffas and Shaitan if he wants to live in Paradise forever and enjoy the Bounties of Allah which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no mind can imagine.
